They are available in many forms – liquid, powder, gel. They work very quickly, so if limescale is not thick, one application may be enough. It is very important to remember that such strong solutions remain in washing machine after application, so it is recommended to set 2 or 3 washing cycles to remove all residues.
Home solutions
There are also non-professional methods of limescale removal. For this, the most effective are vinegar and citric acid. They are not as spectacular as professional products, but can be very effective. To remove limescale by citric acid, proceed as follows: put a packet (for example 0,5 kg) of citric acid inside the washing machine drum or in detergent drawer. Afterwards, set washing machine to very high temperature cycle – like 90 degrees centigrade. After it is finished, set normal wash cycle without clothes to rinse it off. Very similar is method with vinegar – pour it inside of the drum and set on a cycle that has at least 40 degrees temperature. After it is finished, set a normal cycle to rinse it.
Prevention is very important
When we get rid of limescale in our washing machine it is important to keep it out of our machine. To delay its creation, it is good to use a water softener. What is very important – even if limescale does not deposit very quickly, it is good to perform descaling occasionally. It will keep our appliance in top condition for longer.
